Burnout is real — how to face it?

I read about burnout more and more lately. It is becoming more mainstream now than ever. And I have experienced it too.

There can be a lot of reasons for it. The fast pace of society, faster change in the world, and much more.

We are trying to keep up with everything in the world, in our lives, and at work. Sometimes it’s just too much for us to handle. And yes, a lot of people are going through this at some point in their lives.

And all you want to do at that point is lie down, think about absolutely nothing, and relax. Right?

But how to do it when there are that many things to do, to figure out, to fix?

Just stop

If you are burned out, you are not going to fix anything anyway. So why don’t give yourself a break at least? There is a chance that this necessary break will help you get on your feet again and you will be able to battle all those responsibilities again, with more strength.

And now — How to stop?

If you are able to give yourself a break from everything, great! Just do it! But I understand that there are many things we can’t just run away from. In that case, try to cut as much as you possibly can for at least a month. Or until you feel whole again.

Take a vacation, turn off unnecessary notifications, stop meeting people that spread out bad energy, and go visit places outside. Every single little thing can help. But that is mostly up to you.

I have taken a break from work. Because I thought that was the main reason for my burnout. I have not done any work for a month. And when I came back to work, I enjoyed it again.

How avoid another burnout?

Now, let’s assume you take your necessary break. And you think, what keeps me from burning out again in a while?

And again, this is up to you. You have to know your limits. You have to know, how much you can handle until you are exhausted. If you are mentally exhausted (in a bad way) every single day again. For sure the burnout may come again.

  1. Set up some management. Make yourself a ToDo list of all the must-have tasks you need to finish for the day. Make sure your ToDo list doesn’t overflow often — adjust it on day to day basis and try to stick to it.
  2. Don’t work too many hours a day. Maybe a part-time job can be a solution to all of it. You will work to make a steady income, but you will have time for yourself and your hobbies as well. And that can radically help you feel better, relaxed, and happy for another day to come.
  3. Reach out to someone with the same experience. If you know someone who has been through burnout too, talk to them. Get their point of view and maybe you will figure something out together. Don’t be embarrassed about it, it is a common thing and a lot of people are trying to get this right too.

Now, what I would like to see is some friendly discussion. If you are reading this article, you are going through this, or you have in the past. Share your story, share how did you overcome it if you did. It can help other people who read this article.

Be strong, cure your mind and you will see some great results in the future. 🙂
